Guest Speaker 3: Course on Direct Composites anterior and Posteriors 15th October 2017

 SMAK academy was proud in conducting its second course on Direct composite restorations. I was a guest speaker and my talk was completely on "Finishing and Polishing of Composite restorations"

This program was sponsored by Tokuyama and the entire program was done with their composites. However, the finishing and polishing protocols involved all the other various techniques in achieving the best esthetics.

The program had lectures involving Material Sciences in Composites- by Dr.Shameem, Anterior Direct composite restorations by Dr.Mahadevan and Posterior direct composites by Dr.Kamakshi and concluded with Finishing and Polishing protocols for composites by me. Post lunch we did an extensive hands on on different layering techniques till the final finishing and polishing.

Case 45: Cementation protocol for an emax- lithium disilicate crowns The chances for dislodgement of an all ceramic especially a glass ceramic is possible when isolation is not maintained during it cementation. Here is a case with a dislodged emax crown which was done somewhere else a year ago. Bonded restorations normally have an excellent durability and longevity if luted following proper cementation protocols. So what do we do to achieve that protocol? Amelogenesis imperfecta is a developmental defect where the developement of enamel is affected. The condition may vary from simple white flecks of enamel hypoplasia to severe pitting with brown-yellow discolored teeth. Here is a patient who was a teenager and was emotionally & psychologically affected because of his unesthetic teeth. Reason is, he had amelogenesis imperfecta which was severe involving all his teeth with yellow brown discolorations along with pitting in the posterior teeth.
