Case 19: Importance of Digital Trial and Dental Photography
Dental photography is an important aspect in esthetic dentistry. Any photograph taken with ideal flash and white balance correction carried out using Lightroom is an important step in communicating with the ceramists when explaining the shade and characteristics.

This patient walked in with a emergency Ellis class 3 fracture with pulp exposure in both 1.1 and 2.1 It was eventually assessed for vitality over a span of 2-3 weeks and ended up with non vitality and endodontic therapy.

Post endodontics it was decided for Emax crowns in both the teeth.
Post preparation, the stump shade was recorded with color correction and ideal white balance set in lightroom. These photographs play a vital role in matching the shade and the ceramists will have a better understanding in achieving the desired esthetics.
Once the crown is fabricated, another photograph with the same settings should be taken and transferred to the lighroom to fix the same white balance. Once done, the portion of the crown alone can be transferred to check the shade digitally. This technique is an adaptation from elab concept.

The above image is the example of how we can check the color of the crown matching the adjacent tooth as assessed digitally.
