Case 16: Smile Designing- Repeating esthetically failed laminate veneers

Case 16: Smile Designing- Repeating esthetically failed veneers

Laminate veneers are viable options in conservatively enhancing the smile of any individual. However, there are certain protocols to achieve success on a long run. Here is a case of esthetically failed veneers on 1.2, 1.1 and 2.1 teeth.

It can be seen from the pre-op intra oral image that the existing veneers are not symmetrical, presence of fractured ceramic and stained margins. Sectioning and removal of existing veneers should be done carefully due to the fact that veneers are bonded to the tooth with a resin cement. This can inadvertently fracture the tooth if not removed properly. It was decided to redo the veneers and hence the existing veneers were removed.

On removal of the veneers, the preparations are refined and smoothened. Photography plays a vital role in shade matching. In this case we used a white card to calibrate and correct the white-balance of the image and the stump shade is recorded. The advantage of using a white balance card gives us a precise color value and we can even try a digital try-in. this digital try-in was adapted from the elab concept by Dr.Sasha Hein.

On removal of the veneers, Provisional veneers were fabricated using Luxatemp bis acryl material and luted with a spot-etch technique

Digital smile design was done for better lab communication and for the ceramists understanding. I decided to do Emax CAD veneers from MT blanks.

The veneers once fabricate in the lab can be photographed again with a white balance card just to verify it digitally, if the shades are matching or not. Here we can see that the shade is almost match and this step helps us avoid any unnecessary delay in shade correction.

It can be seen that the alignment and the shade along with proper emergence profile gives the desired esthetics .
