Case 5: Salvaging a tooth with Fibre post and core followed by Zirconia crowns 22

 Here is a challenging case with a fractured tooth 2.2 that has undergone endodontic therapy and a PFM crown long ago. On examination, the tooth structure was just adequate for a ferrule to be preserved for fabricating a post and core restoration. The patient requested for an esthetic enhancement of 2.1 PFM crown as well.


It was decided to restore 2.2 with fibre post and core followed by a translucent zirconia esthetic crown and removal of existing un-esthetic 2.1 PFM crown with the same Zirconia restoration.



Communicating the necessary details to the ceramist is important to achieve the desired result. Since its a translucent zirconia, it is advisable to provide with stump shade and the desired crown contour and morphology details.




These sort of pictorial communications helps the ceramists alot to achieve the best esthetics in indirect restorations.



This case was done by me at Parasu Dental Hospital, Chennai.

Case 48: All on 4 Maxillary implants+ Immediate loading+ Defintive Malo bridge Another case of an immediate loading All on 4 maxillary prosthesis and after 6 months went ahead with a malo bridge made of milled Ti frame with PFM crowns. This patient had fixed prosthesis in the upper arch with multiple root caries which required extraction of all the maxillary arch teeth. The patient requested for an immediate denture or fixed prosthesis on the same day of extraction due to esthetic concerns. Phase 1: Involved a diagnostic impression and mounting & articulation along with cast modification in the maxillary arch for the fabrication of an interim immediate acrylic denture.
