Guest speaker 1 : SMAK academy's Inception and A guest speaker for a program on Smile designing- June 2017

SMAK academy was started in the year 2017 with the ideology of spreading knowledge by conducting programs intended to continue education in the field of dentistry. Dr.Mahadevan, Dr.Kamakshi, Dr.Shameem and I are like-minded Prosthodontists and we initiated this move.
In June 2017, we conducted our first continuing education program on Dental photography and smile designing.


I was one of the guest speaker for the workshop and my talk was on Principles of Dental Photography and its importance in Smile Designing. I ventured into photography a decade ago and inclined towards dental photography by 2014. Since then, documentation of all my cases were done using a DSLR camera and the importance of documenting can be seen in my blog with loads of clinical cases being portrayed.


Our first program had a small group of 10 Candidates and the program was just a stepping stone towards our Continuing education venture.

Case 45: Cementation protocol for an emax- lithium disilicate crowns The chances for dislodgement of an all ceramic especially a glass ceramic is possible when isolation is not maintained during it cementation. Here is a case with a dislodged emax crown which was done somewhere else a year ago. Bonded restorations normally have an excellent durability and longevity if luted following proper cementation protocols. So what do we do to achieve that protocol? Case 50: Full mouth rehabilitation-Digital Dentistry-Digital Smile Design of a patient with Amelogenesis Imperfecta. Amelogenesis imperfecta is a developmental defect where the developement of enamel is affected. The condition may vary from simple white flecks of enamel hypoplasia to severe pitting with brown-yellow discolored teeth. Here is a patient who was a teenager and was emotionally & psychologically affected because of his unesthetic teeth. Reason is, he had amelogenesis imperfecta which was severe involving all his teeth with yellow brown discolorations along with pitting in the posterior teeth.
